Kicking off from the Central Station day-use area, you’ll follow the Wanggoolba Creek boardwalk to the K'gari (formerly Fraser Island) Great Walk. After climbing a steep sandhill, the flatter ground and scattered shade of scribbly gums, bloodwoods and blackbutts is most welcome!
It won’t be long before you’ll emerge onto the banks of this beautiful freshwater lake. Reeds and white sandy beaches fringe deep, tannin-stained water, home to more species of frogs than anywhere else on the island.
Spend a few hours relaxing in the water and exploring the lake’s edge before heading back along the same track.
This park is part of the K'gari World Heritage Area, famed for its exceptional natural beauty, outstanding examples of coastal dune landform development and evolutionary history.
