Only 40 minutes’ drive from the heart of Brisbane lies a place that feels a world away: Samford.
There’s the things you’d expect to find, like flavoursome country cafes and charming village centre, and then a few things that will surprise you – especially if you’re a Harry Potter fan.
Here are the best things to do in Samford.

Wander through the forest beside bubbling streams to end at the serene rock pools of Cedar Creek – one of the best swimming holes near Brisbane. This place is popular with locals and families for good reason, and if you’re lucky, you may be able to spot platypus in the water.
Whether you’re hiking, horse riding, mountain biking or firing up the BBQ – Samford Conservation Park offers a lot of action within its native bushland.

For a small country town, Samford more than carries its weight in cafes – so come hungry.
There’s locally made treats of Little Tree Bake and Brewhouse, excellent espresso at Buzzstop, nourishing bites at 100% organic Canter & Colt, creative dishes at converted church cafe the Flying Nun, and the toasties and gelato at The Longyard Larder.
Want a cuddle with your coffee? Head to Collies & Co, where you can hang out with collie puppies while you tuck into an all-day breakfast menu.
Samford’s thriving arts community shines bright at The Slab Hut Art & Craft Gallery in John Scott Park. Here you’ll discover unique art and gifts made by over 60 local artists, ranging textiles, jewellery, pottery, painting, woodwork and more. Open daily 10am-4pm, you’ll meet many of the artists while you’re here.
Don’t leave Samford Valley without a visit to the Good Egg Gallery. Opened in 2020 and nestled in the foothills of Mount Glorious, this space showcases 20 local artists, helmed by owner and resident artist Deb Pettigrew.
Lyell Deer Sanctuary, Mount Samson
Have your own Disney moment at peaceful Lyell Deer Sanctuary, where you have the opportunity to meet and feed the small herd of rescued deer that call this place home.
You can also meet a range of farm animals at sprawling Trevena Glen Farm, just 10 minutes from Samford Village. This safe, welcoming environment for kids offers farm tours, horse riding and an NDIS program too.
Head for the hills to take in views you can’t help but stop and stare at.
Wind your way through Mount Nebo and Mount Glorious: Jolly’s Lookout Point will make your feel just that, but you can continue on further to Westridge Outlook, Western Window, and Wivenhoe Outlook. Don’t forget to pack a picnic, and if you want to stretch your legs there are plenty of trails well worth the walk here.
Pause, Samford. Photo by @pausesamford
Dinner isn’t a rushed affair at Pause, one of Greater Brisbane’s most exciting dining experiences. Serving Mediterranean fare bursting with local produce, choose from four degustation menus and get ready to savour every bite.
Want to learn how to whip up incredible meals at home? Enrol in a cooking class at Pause Academy, where you’ll get industry insight into making pasta, gnocchi and other Italian classics.
Step back into Samford’s early days with a visit to Samford Museum, open Wednesdays and Sundays. It details the region’s past from settlement to war time and beyond, with machinery, model schools and more to illuminate its story. Haven’t had enough? Take on the Samford Valley Heritage Trail, which stops at 13 historic sites along the way.

Potterheads will find their place of worship in an old brick church, now home to Brisbane’s official Harry Potter store. From butterscotch brew to wands, clothing and collectibles, there’s everything mere muggles need to transform into wizards with one visit.
