To chat face-to-face to a local about all the best things to see and do on Pumpkin Island, step into a Visitor Information Centre.
A chance to disconnect from the everyday awaits you on this pristine member of the Keppel Group of islands. Book one cabin, or hire the entire island. Up to 34 guests, including larger groups, can claim one of seven eco-friendly bungalows, each boasting barbecues and private decks and that can be stepped off straight onto the sand.
A treasure trove of flora and fauna will keep you entertained during your stay. At just 450m wide by 150m long, it's easy to meander Pumpkin's unfrequented beaches. Safe for swimming and snorkelling year-round, access to the surrounding reef is easy and encouraged. Glide your way through the coral-laden stretch, rich in marine life, from fish to dolphins and turtles. Gaze at the iconic natural wonder from the comfort of a glass bottom kayak or stand-up paddle board, before Mother Nature treats you to a phenomenal light show as the sun sets over the ocean while you settle back with a cocktail.
While refreshingly simple, there is still plenty to find. Pumpkin Island has only been inhabited since 1961, while before then the picturesque spot was used for harvesting oysters. Now, it holds the title of Australia’s first carbon-positive island, powered entirely by wind and sun.
Getting here is drama-free, we promise - just climb aboard a boat transfer in Keppel Bay Marina in Rosslyn near Yeppoon.
