48 Hours in Mount Tamborine
Itinerary
To chat face-to-face to a local about all the best things to see and do in the Gold Coast Hinterland, step into a Visitor Information Centre.
National Parks are the specialty here. Rove the Gondwana Rainforests of Springbrook National Park, considered one of the wettest places in Southeast Queensland. Or take a hike through the picturesque walking trails that lace through Lamington National Park, which attracts birdwatchers in their droves. O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat provides a starting point for multiple tracks, including their treetop walk formed by nine suspension bridges over the canopy.
It’s in the Gold Coast Hinterland where foodies prosper. Producers are scattered throughout this strip, specialising in everything from fruit to fudge. Vineyards are also in no short supply - taste local creations from regional favourites like Cedar Creek Estate and Canungra Valley Vineyard, or forgo the vino for the unique liqueurs crafted by Mount Tamborine Distillery.
It’s also here on Mount Tamborine, the Gold Coast’s most famous former volcano, that craft-lovers and antiques enthusiasts flock. The charming region is where a number of quaint villages reside, overflowing with antique stores, artisan galleries and cafes ideal for a coffee break post-shop. But there’s still plenty of outdoor offerings to explore - spend the weekend appreciating the floral arrangements at the Mount Tamborine Botanic Gardens, or the more rugged beauty of Curtis and Cedar Creek Falls.
