Sunshine Coast Hinterland | Queensland Country | Gold Coast Hinterland
Winters may be on the mild side across most of Queensland, but that doesn’t mean you can’t long for a peaceful weekend away in front of a fireplace. Our southern countryside doesn't rest solely on its looks: this area knows how to turn up the heat while delivering a spectacular side of nature and luxury.
Want to get away and cosy up in style? Here are some of the best luxury escapes with fireplaces - and they’re all within a few hours’ drive of Brisbane.
Head north on the Bruce Highway to the Sunshine Coast, but instead of making a beeline to the beach, this time veer left and head to the hinterland. This is a haven for forest and fireplace luxury escapes in Queensland.
Perched on the side of Lake Baroon (just outside Montville and Maleny), Secrets on the Lake makes treehouses more luxurious than you could ever imagine.
The walk along the hand-carved elevated walkway to get to your room and the fireplace that hangs from the ceiling make this place seem like a fairytale. Except it’s real and you can go there now.
You could easily wile away the hours sitting on your private balcony listening to the birds and gazing out at the tranquil lake, soaking in a deep bath, or lounging in front of the fire, but then you’d miss out on visiting Secrets on the Lake’s own exclusive waterfall, accessible only to guests.
Secrets on the Lake is a great base to explore the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, not to mention fulfill those treehouse fantasies this list is sure to inspire.
The Postman’s Cottage is a luxurious abode for two and was designed with the intention of embracing slow living.
Set on 1.5 acres of luscious garden, The Postman’s Cottage is just a stones throw from the charming heart of Montville and a cruisy 30-minute drive west of the Sunshine Coast.
Named in homage to the original homestead being the first Receiving Office for mail in 1895 (where letters arrived by horseback and foot), the Postman’s Cottage bids adieu to mail days and hello to visitors looking to relax by the fire or in the soapy bubbles of the impressive clawfoot tub.
Guests have full access to the cottage, shared access to the grounds and magnesium pool.
You don't have to travel anywhere to take in the views at Glass on Glasshouse: the cabins each have two walls that are completely glass (hence the name), giving you 180-degree views of Mount Beerwah and Mount Coonowrin.
Add to that an eco-smart fireplace that can be enjoyed from the living room or the freestanding double spa bath, and you’ve got yourself one of the best luxury escapes amongst the Glass House Mountains.
Tear yourself away from the warmth of the fireplace just for a bit, and we promise getting to know your neighbours (a group of spectacular volcanic peaks) will be worth it.
Not just a visual feast, Glass on Glasshouse provides breakfast provisions to all who stay, including fresh fruit, cereal, eggs, bacon, and a selection of bread and jams. For lunch, drop into the nearby Glasshouse Plantation to stock up on fresh produce picked directly from the working tropical orchard or sourced from local growers to take back to your cabin and prepare in your kitchenette.
Spice up your winter getaway with a luxury stay at Spicers Tamarind Retreat in Maleny.
The Luxury Falls Villas are true to their name, with a king bed, double shower, spacious lounge room and private balcony. Not to mention there’s a day spa and an award-winning restaurant serving up mouth-watering Asian cuisine on-site.
The fireplace will keep you cosy indoors, but we won’t blame you for wanting to spend most of your time outdoors. The outdoor fire pit and cedar hot tub on the balcony overlooking the surrounding bush will quickly become your favourite chill out spaces, and will give you a taste of what’s beyond your villa - like the numerous waterfalls, including Gardeners Falls which is only a short walk away.

Get out of town and head west from Brisbane into the country, where the air is as fresh as the locally grown produce.
Known as Queensland’s coldest town, Stanthorpe is the perfect place for a luxury escape. Alure Stanthorpe knows exactly what it takes to make a tent warm and fuzzy while still appealing to your eco-conscious values. They’ve dialled the luxury up to 11 and installed an eco-fireplace and reverse air conditioning. There are luxury villas as well as glamping options, complete with an ensuite and hot tub.
