When it comes to spectacular scenery, bush walking and national parks, boutique accommodation and delectable local produce, the Scenic Rim delivers in spades. With the abundant region located on the doorsteps of Brisbane and the Gold Coast, it’s no surprise the Scenic Rim has been named in the Top 10 Regions of the World to visit next year, in the release of Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2022.

Now in its 17th year, the annual collection shifted its focus to the best sustainable travel experiences in 2022, selecting idyllic destinations where travelers could expect to leave a positive impact. The Scenic Rim has impressively bounced back from the devastating bushfires of summer 2019, with a renewed focus on sustainability and eco-friendly experiences.

Specific experiences that stood out to the judging panel included Australia’s newest Great Walk The Scenic Rim Trail, Nightfall Wilderness Camp, Mount Barney Lodge, Summer Land Camels and the six breathtaking national parks.

“We’re thrilled to see the Scenic Rim included in the world’s best destinations, especially as it’s such an untouched and diverse eco-based Australian destination,” says Lonely Planet’s Chris Zeiher.

“From the amazing food and wine to the incredible rainforest and bush walks and memorable places to stay, this is an unexpected pocket of Australia that has it all.”

The Scenic Rim is home to six national parks, multiple glamping accommodation options and ecolodges, 25 wineries, many unique gourmet encounters, the World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforest and the perfect amount of country character.

So much character, in fact, that Scenic Rim locals, writer Benjamin Allmon and photographer Carin Garland, recently walked 700 kms of the region collecting photographs, local stories, history and people of the place, capturing its essence into a stunning two-volume coffee table book The Black & White Braid. Full of incredible tales and powerful imagery, it's the perfect starting point for inspiring your visit, or a keepsake to remember a trip by.
