At its peak, the Croydon Goldfields hosted over 110 mines, with notable ones like Golden Gate, Tabletop, Golden Valley, and Mountain Maid leading the way. These gold-rich reefs lay underground, not on the surface, and while most mines didn’t reach extreme depths, the deepest, Golden Gate, stretched down 417 metres.
