Welcome to
Maryborough

Where each street tells a story

If you grew up reading or watching Mary Poppins, childhood memories will come flooding back with each step you take down Maryborough’s historic streets.

This tiny town on the Fraser Coast was the birthplace of P.L. Travers, serving as the inspiration behind her book Mary Poppins. And it’s as character-filled as the book itself.

Explore Maryborough’s rich history and heritage through classic 1800s Queensland architecture, wander the art galleries and museums, and picnic in riverside parks.

There’s no better time to experience its charm than during the annual Mary Poppins Festival. Watch historic streets come alive with scenes straight out of the storybook, or test your skills in the Great Nanny Challenge and the Chimney Sweep Dash. Visit in June to get your fill of countryside flavours during the gourmet takeover of Relish Food & Wine Festival.

A visit to Maryborough Military and Colonial Museum showcases the most extensive military memorabilia outside Canberra. Maryborough is the birthplace of Duncan Chapman, the first ANZAC ashore in Gallipoli during WWI, whose story can be discovered through the Gallipoli to Armistice Memorial.

Only a three-hour drive north of Brisbane, Maryborough makes for a postcard-perfect country weekender, or day trip while exploring Hervey Bay and the Fraser Coast.
