The Queensland capital of Brisbane is especially abundant in cooking classes. Not surprising considering the impressive cafe and restaurant scene which has continued to flourish in recent years. The Golden Pig in Newstead is a particularly popular learning space - run by a former fine dining chef, the restaurant and cooking school combined focuses on an array of international cuisine.
But it’s the Sunshine Coast which has proven itself a true haven for budding chefs. This region which is best recognised for its beaches is fast attracting foodies by the truckload. It’s here you’ll find a bevy of cooking schools, the most famous of which is Thai-focused The Spirit House in hinterland district Yandina. Also worth a mention is the equally picturesque Tamarind Cooking School in Spicers Tamarind Retreat and Red Hot Chilli Pepper closer to the coastline in Caloundra.
Or get better acquainted with Indigenous ingredients. Native foods form the focus at a cluster of cooking schools and workshops spread throughout the state, particularly in Tropical North Queensland. Ochre Restaurant in Cairns is one such stand-out, borrowing both methods and ingredients from the Indigenous people.
