Conscious travel begins before you touch down on Queensland soil.
If you’re flying, consider off-setting your flights or when driving, consider the most fuel-efficient way of getting to your destination. We have plenty of accommodation that’s eco-certified so you can sleep easy knowing your impact is minimal on the environment. We’re home to Australia’s very first carbon-positive island, just for starters.
Choose destinations a little off the beaten track to help spread tourism throughout the state and where you can shop locally to ensure you’re giving back to the local community. Luckily, we’re full of charming roadside farm gates, clean-eating cafes, and restaurants embracing a paddock-to-plate philosophy, so it’s not hard to find our ethically and sustainably sourced produce whenever your tummy rumbles.
Ensure you’re leaving only footprints and taking only memories and photographs, especially in our pristine national parks, and our precious Great Barrier Reef. Did you know the more you visit, the more you’re helping to protect the Reef? Each visitor’s minimal “reef tax” adds up to help fund marine park management, and our accredited Reef tour guides contribute to its monitoring and restoration.
Voluntourism is another way you can directly help Queensland’s natural wonders on your next holiday. You can assist in a variety of ways, from cleaning up national parks to protecting endangered sea turtles and whales on the reef.
Whether your conscious travel act is big (like volunteering your entire holiday) or small (like using a keep-cup instead of a plastic one), you’re playing a part in protecting and conserving our spectacular and precious natural assets.
From Queensland, thank you.
