On the road to adventure: 7 of the best Queensland road trips
Road Trip
Queensland’s 1,727,000 square kilometres not only promise plenty of driving potential, but enough sights and sounds to keep boredom at bay. A road trip is one of the best ways to see the state’s famously diverse landscape first-hand, no matter whether you have a single day or a few weeks to spare. The hardest part will be deciding on your vehicle of choice - the array of on and off-road drives winding their way around the state make Queensland’s road trips welcoming of vehicles of all shapes and sizes.
While there’s no shortage of places to hit the bitumen, some road trips are considered true stand-outs. Like the 1808-kilometre Pacific Coast Way, stretching from Brisbane to Cairns, cusping the region’s renowned beaches and rainforest. Or the Savannah Way, which winds its way through the vibrant red dust roads of Outback Queensland. Make your way along the 1493 kilometres from Cairns to Adels Grove, till the Northern Territory border is within waving distance.
If you need a reason to hit the open road, Queensland’s ample events, particularly in far-flung regional areas, may prove the perfect excuse. Take a break at the quiet country towns that litter the route, or take your own accommodation with you - cruising your way by caravan or motorhome, or choosing instead to pitch a tent in the great outdoors.
With 1,727,000 square kms, a trip along one of Queensland’s iconic highway routes is the stuff travel memories are made of. Choose a coastal cruise, a city adventure, a country escape, an outback exploration, or a combination of all four in our Great Queensland Drive Map.
