Queensland Beaches

Discover Queensland's
Beaches

Sink your toes in and linger a while

The gentle crescendo of waves lapping the shore, the still morning breeze, the flickering of light from a dull hue to soft orange, and then the full break of day.

If you haven’t watched the sunrise over a Queensland beach, your senses are missing out.

Queensland beaches are, of course, more than the perfect place for a morning coffee and a moment of peace - they hold something different for so many.

We are drawn to the ocean - its power, its beauty, and its freedom. From learning about our ancient connection to the ocean through Indigenous stories, or standing up on a surfboard for the first time, they’re here for everyone to enjoy. This is the Gold Coast’s story.

Choose your perfect patch of sand

For board riders, there’s the World Surf Reserves of Noosa and the Southern Gold Coast. Day trippers can explore the silica sands of Whitehaven Beach or the famed Nudey Beach among a plethora of options.

Turtles call Mon Repos and other beaches in the Southern Great Barrier Reef home, returning every year to lay their eggs. Families, too, return year after year to splash in the safe and patrolled waters of Queensland’s sparkling coastline.

There are the hidden stretches on islands like Lizard and Great Keppel, or secluded sand bars like Vlassof Cay that you’re unlikely to share with another human being, if you choose.

Campers have the world’s four largest sand islands to explore. You can run a half-marathon along them, ride a horse along the sand, or sit with a chef-hatted meal overlooking the waves.

Therein lies the beauty of Queensland beaches: the ever-shifting, but seldom-changing friend you can spend every day with, but rarely do the same activity.

With more than 6,000km of coastline, you’ll easily find a Queensland beach perfect for you.
