Welcome to the
Southern Gold Coast

Embrace life in the slow lane

Cruise on into the Southern Gold Coast, stretching from Palm Beach to Currumbin, Kirra, Snapper, and Coolangatta on the state’s border.

Within arm’s reach of lively Surfers Paradise, this thriving sprawl of sand and surf on the region’s southern tip offers a far more peaceful existence than its northern neighbours. But it’s not just the presence of solitude to be found here, but some of the world’s best waves.

Things to do in the Southern Gold Coast

For surfers, there's nowhere better. The Southern Gold Coast is where you’ll find some of the world’s most admired breaks. This includes the much revered Snapper Rocks, the small rocky outcrop on the northern side of Point Danger which is better suited to the experienced. The point break forms the first part of the man-made Superbank extending two kilometres into Kirra, and is home to the annual Corona Open Gold Coast surf competition. The 16-kilometre stretch of the Gold Coast from Burleigh Point to Snapper Rocks has officially been declared the eighth World Surfing Reserve.

Calmer waters can be found not far; take a dip in the Currumbin Rock Pools or the sheltered turquoise waters of Tallebudgera Creek where kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding is just as popular. Take the family for surf lessons at one of the many schools that line neighbouring Currumbin Alley, or climb the suburb’s iconic Elephant Rock. Post-beach, kids will enjoy greeting the animals at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, and getting better acquainted with the ancestral lands of the local Yugambeh people

Those after something more leisurely will be just as satisfied by the Southern Gold Coast. Ever-growing, its cafes, restaurants, and bars are in abundance. Greet the morning with a coffee at local favourites Cafe D-Bar, Bam Bam Bakehouse, and Good Day Coffee. Or enjoy a pint with a view at one of the much-treasured surf life saving clubs in the region - Currumbin Beach Vikings Surf Life Saving Club or Rainbow Bay Surf Life Saving are two beachside stand-outs.
