The budget accommodation in Brisbane worth your while

Guide

By Sarah Bristow

Travel can be done on a budget, even in a capital city, and we have proof. The Sunshine State’s capital of Brisbane is a destination awash with places to stay, no matter how much you have to spend.

This is the budget accommodation in Brisbane worth your while.

Hotels

Ibis Styles Elizabeth Street Brisbane

Ibis Styles Elizabeth Street Brisbane Hotel

Elizabeth Street is one of the River City’s most central strips, making it ideal for basing yourself if you want to stay in Brisbane’s centre. One of the best budget accommodation options in Brisbane, this place may be simply decorated but it offers all the amenities you could need during your time in the Queensland capital. Plus, shopaholics will be delighted to hear it resides next to Myer, right on leading shopping destination Queen Street.

Motels

Ascot Budget Inn

If you don’t want to dip quite as deep into your pockets as a hotel requires, why not make the most of Brisbane’s bevy of affordable motels. Outside of the city itself, in the inner northern suburbs is the upmarket suburb of Ascot where, on its edge, the Budget Inn sits. Comfortable and clean is the ethos with the rooms here, which range from studios to serviced apartments with kitchenettes.

Ibis Budget Windsor Brisbane

A hop, skip, and a jump away is another equally tempting place to stay if you’re keen to save your pennies (to splurge elsewhere). In Windsor is another Ibis Budget option, boasting 50 different rooms to choose from to sleep between two and three guests. Each offers a fleet of modern amenities, with air con, flat screen TVs and ensuites.

Hostels

Brisbane City YHA

On the city’s edge is where you’ll find Brisbane City YHA, nudging the luscious public green space of Roma Street Parklands. It’s the amenities here which really push it a cut above the rest in terms of backpacker accommodation - think free WiFi, co-living, twin, double, and family rooms all available, a rooftop pool, onsite cafe, and the option to take part in a bevy of tours from walking excursions to pub hopping.

Nomads Brisbane

For backpackers (or working holiday makers for that matter), Nomads may be the best port of call. This CBD hostel is arguably one of the River City’s best, and lives opposite Central Station. Its accommodation is varied, depending on your needs and budget, including single rooms, private double and twin rooms, and dorm rooms from 4-10 beds. But its best feature is its rooftop terrace, where you can catch glimpses of the city skyline.

Brisbane Quarters

This budget accommodation in Brisbane can be found in the historic suburb of Spring Hill, where the hostel sits wedged among a slew of heritage-style Queenslander homes. But it’s not just the surrounding architecture which proves ample reason to stay, with the self-described boutique hostel a seriously chic affordable option. There are 5 different types of rooms - dorm rooms, ensuite dorms, the futuristic single pods, private rooms, and private ensuites, each as well decorated as the next.

Slightly more expensive is this historic cluster of hotel rooms and apartments - built back in the 1900s it lives opposite the local landmark of Anzac Square. All rooms here are built for comfortable living, and include a microwave, plus tea and coffee making facilities. For those who want to stay longer, some offer a kitchenette and a laundry.

Oaks iStay River City Brisbane

Then there’s this affordable accommodation in Brisbane from the reputable Oaks Group, which boasts flexible rates thanks to offering you to choose your own room service level. The building contains a series of one and two-bedroom apartments in the city centre, each with spacious living and dining areas to accommodate a crowd. Plus there’s a gym, a swimming pool, barbecue facilities, 24-hour reception, and the city rarity of parking.

Park Regis North Quay

Perched near the winding banks of the Brisbane River and the sporting hub of Suncorp Stadium is the Park Regis. Picture simple styled hotel rooms which nudge one and two-bedroom apartments, alongside a bevy of facilities which include a gym, swimming pool, barbecue area, guest laundry and dry cleaning facilities.

Caravan parks

Brisbane Holiday Village

Brisbane Holiday Village

For working holiday makers, Brisbane Holiday Village stay makes financial sense. You can make a base for yourself in the city’s outer southern suburb of Eight Mile Plains at the space’s affordable self-contained cabins. Spread across 33 landscaped acres, this budget accommodation in Brisbane boasts its own adult pool, children’s lagoon, mini golf course, tennis court, bike track and playground to enjoy in your spare time.

Brisbane Gateway Resort

You’ll find more bang for your buck at Brisbane Gateway Resort. As its name suggests, this accommodation space weaves in resort-style accommodation, caravan sites, and cabins at its location on the very edge of the Queensland capital. While its prices are far more affordable than those in the CBD, that doesn’t mean it’s a world away, at just a 20 minute drive from the town centre.

Galaxy Caravan Park

For working holiday makers or avid travellers there’s arguably little competition for Galaxy Caravan Park, a place smack bang in the middle between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The family-run establishment has been led by the Turner Family since 1974, and is currently managed by its third generation! Long-term and short term residents are welcomed here (alongside pets), with both cabin and caravan sites.
