CrossFit. The fitness phenomenon boasts a fiercely dedicated global following, uniting people from across the globe in their mutual love of fitness, discipline, and WOD (CrossFit lingo for workout of the day).
Back for 2025, the Torian Pro returns to Brisbane's iconic Pat Rafter Arena at the Queensland Tennis Centre to find some of the world's fittest athletes to send to the CrossFit Games in August.
Let’s cut straight to the chase: the Torian Pro is not for the faint-hearted. Nor is it a competition for individuals just starting in the world of CrossFit. Providing a pathway for athletes to earn their ‘pro card’ (aka, qualifying in their designated event division), entering, and winning the Torian Pro means claiming the title ‘Fittest in Oceania’, and an entry into the global CrossFit finals. And that’s a BIG deal in the world of pro-CrossFit athletes.
If this sounds like you, you’ll have already started your campaign season by competing in the qualifier at the CrossFit Open before progressing to the Torian Pro. Community divisional athletes need to register via the Torian Pro Online Qualifier, running alongside the official CrossFit Open, utilising the same workouts to qualify to compete in person at the Torian Pro.
It is, however, a great source of inspiration if you are keen to dip the toe in the CrossFit world – and a fantastic place to see first-hand the passion and calibre of athletes across the Oceania region. Turning up to throw your support behind a friend or family member? Or want to catch your favourite pro athlete in action? Tickets are available across all three days.
Public transport is your best bet to get to the Torian Pro. See TransLink’s website to plan your journey. Yeerongpilly Station, the closest station to the Queensland Tennis Centre.
While there is no public parking at the Queensland Tennis Centre, $15 parking will be available at nearby St Joseph’s College, Tennyson, with a shuttle bus operating throughout the event.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day – be you a pro athlete, aspiring CrossFit enthusiast or eager onlooker. Head to nearby cafes Adonis Café & Bar, Dapple + Waver, Little Clive or Billykart Kitchen for the best coffee and breakfast before arriving at the arena.
Looking for somewhere to have a bite to eat after the tournament? The Queensland Tennis Centre is mere moments from two fantastic craft breweries; Slipstream and Helios, serving up local craft beers and dining options all day.
Allow plenty of time to get to the event arena. If you are participating in this year’s Torian Pro, you’ll need to sign in at the ticket office before heading to the athlete’s village where you’ll have time to prep for your rounds.
Need a break from all the action? Make time to visit the vendor village while inside the Torian Pro for discounts on some of the best fitness apparel, accessories and fitness advice in the business.
Queensland’s capital hardly needs a hard sell; Brisbane’s sub-tropical climate, famous brunch culture, award-winning dining scene and outdoor lifestyle quite literally sell itself.
For a spot of people-watching and designer shopping, head straight to James Street in Fortitude Valley. Book a table at one of the riverside venues at Howard Smith Wharves for uninterrupted views of the CBD and some of the best dining in the city. Catch a show at QPAC in South Bank or Brisbane Powerhouse or spend an afternoon relaxing at one of Brisbane’s beautiful green spaces at New Farm Park or Roma Street Parklands.
For all the best spots to eat, drink and do, here’s how and where Brisbane locals are spending their downtime.
Whether you opt for a budget approach to your city getaway or crave life’s little luxuries when staying in a hotel, the River City boasts some extraordinary accommodation options, no matter your budget.
For ultimate bragging rights, stay a night or two at The Calile in Fortitude Valley, voted the world’s 8th best boutique hotel in 2023 (its in-house spa, Kailo, is a must-visit to soothe aching muscles post-event).
For an elegant stay in the CBD, book a room at either W Brisbane or The Westin. Both boast enviable city locations and the all-important rooftop swimming pool to while away the aches and pains of a weekend-long CrossFit competition.
