Discover Queensland’s
Indigenous Culture

Learning from our Traditional Owners

Did you know that Queensland is the only place where both of Australia’s Indigenous cultures meet?

Connecting with nature is best experienced through the eyes of our Traditional Owners, who have used their knowledge of the land for thousands of years. Whether it’s through dance, art or traditional feasts, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people proudly practice and preserve their cultures by sharing it with others, like you. Here, you’re not just a spectator, you’re invited to participate

Spend a day or two exploring and you’ll start to see the world differently.

On Wangadaray Yalanji country, Magnificent Gallery, a collection of more than 450 pieces of rock art, tells the story of our Indigenous culture. Johnny Murison makes it come alive. This is Jarramali Rock Art Tours’ story.

Get to know ancient cultures

Feel your body, mind and soul unwind as you experience a traditional healing treatment near the mist of a sacred waterfall.

Learn first-hand how to live off the land and be taught how to forage for bush tucker through coastal wilderness. Prefer some fine dining? Head to the Daintree Rainforest and enjoy flame-lit ambience and cultural entertainment while you nosh on traditionally inspired dishes. Or, go all out and treat yourself to a gourmet night out at an award-winning restaurant in Cairns.

Be moved as you take part in a traditional smoking ceremony and listen to stories of the Dreamtime.

Delve deeper and understand the significance of ancient rock art, used by elders to pass down stories to the next generation, in sandstone caves.

The young at heart can also share in the experience with plenty of interactive tours and workshops for them to boomerang throw, weave, and dance with an Indigenous guide.

But a guided tour isn’t the only way to connect with culture. Gather with locals and celebrate Queensland’s Indigenous culture through the many cultural events on throughout the year.

No matter what you choose to do, you’ll leave a little different.
