Say cheers to Queensland hospitality

The Sunshine State is defined by its natural wonders. Places like nothing you’ve ever encountered, where nature thrives, and stories are born. Stories that are told over and over again at our friendly hostels and backpacker accommodation, as new mates recount their sun-filled adventures over a cold beer. Combine all this with our welcoming hospitality, city precincts that bring the outdoors in, and a penchant for a good time, and you have the complete backpacking bundle. Now you just need somewhere to rest your head.

Cheap holiday accommodation

Wherever you’re travelling, from the stunning beaches of the Gold Coast to the ancient rainforests of Cairns, you’ll find that Queensland offers an extensive range of budget accommodation options. They’re a go-to solution stretching out your savings (and your stay) by providing a more affordable place to rest your head.

You’re sure to find that backpackers and hostels are better for your wallet when travelling on a budget. And since you’ll have more money to experience our beautiful state – they’re also better for your holiday.

But it isn’t just affordability that draws so many travellers to Queensland backpackers and hostels. They also provide the perfect place to meet other travellers from around the world. A place to share your unique experiences and travel stories. Whether you’re looking to make friends for the day, your holiday or your life, you can’t beat the social aspect of staying at a backpackers.

Backpacker accommodation rooms and facilities

You’ll find that the majority of Queensland hostels include a mix of dorm and private room accommodation. A dorm will typically include anywhere from two to twenty single bunk beds per room – with the room shared with your fellow travellers. Some dorm rooms are mixed, while others are male or female only.

As a general rule, the largest dorm is the cheapest. On the other hand, a private room means that you have a room all to yourself. The difference is that you’ll usually have to pay for the entire room – so if it includes three beds but you only need one, you can usually expect to pay for all three. And don’t worry - if you’re not interested in staying in a dorm and opt for a private room instead, you’re still guaranteed a range of social activities and experiences at a hostel if you choose. It could be the pool, the bar, the kitchen or anywhere else – hostels give you a number of opportunities to meet and socialise with other travellers.

Backpackers and hostels will typically include bathroom facilities, a reception area and a kitchen or common area. It varies across each hostel, but the facilities can include swimming pools, bars and cafes, self-catering kitchens, laundry rooms and more. Many hostels can even help you find and book your local tours and travel experiences.

Is backpacker accommodation right for you?

While backpackers and hostels generally cater for younger travellers, it isn’t uncommon to find a grey nomad also taking advantage of this cheap and comfortable accommodation solution. They help visitors experience our state’s many beautiful destinations and get the most out of their holiday.

Whether you’re travelling solo or with a group of friends, you’ll find a range of quality backpacker accommodation options across the state – catering to all budgets and travel experiences.
