Visiting some of the world’s most exciting addresses and landmarks can be more affordable than you’d first imagine. In the last decade, backpacker hostels in Queensland have been reenergising their offering to budget travellers, offering grass roots, no frills, authentic stays in their neighbourhood. The perfect opportunity to mingle with like-minded travellers and swap recommendations of ‘where to from here’ over an evening drink. Unfettered access to the great outdoors and landmarks around you. Freedom to journey.

Whether you’re travelling with friends, solo, and no matter your age, these backpackers dotted along the coast of Queensland often feel more like a friend’s home than budget accommodation. The real insider’s choice for an authentic local stay that won’t break the bank.

The Brisbane YHA is a great inner-city start to a longer road trip. There’s nothing loud or attention grabbing about this place, which perhaps is why it’s so popular. It’s quiet and unassuming, like the welcome mat granting you access to Brisbane’s doorstep - kick off your shoes, you are home for a while.
