Pitch a tent, go boating, visit for the day or simply drive around it and appreciate the beauty of the expansive Lake Moogerah, just an hour and a quarter from Brisbane’s central business district.
The peaceful blue waters are popular for recreational boating, water skiing and jet skiing. There are multiple accesses to the lake, where you will find boating facilities along with a few small swimming areas and parkland with barbecues. Boating is open to anyone but you will need a permit to fish.
On hot days find locals, campers and day-trippers swimming next to Haigh Park, which has public barbecue and picnic facilities as well as a cafe. From Haigh Park, you can walk across the Moogerah Dam wall. The concrete double curvature arch dam wall is 219 metres long and 38 metres high. While crossing the dam wall look out for turtles floating around below. The hiking trail up Mt Edward in Moogerah Peaks National Park starts from the far side of the wall.
From Brisbane, take the Ipswich Motorway until it becomes the Cunningham Highway, eventually turning left at Fassifern onto the Boonah Fassifern Road and then right onto Lake Moogerah Road.
