The Overflow Estate 1895, Scenic Rim, Brisbane

Planning a weekend in the Scenic Rim? Check into one of five secluded WanderPods overlooking rolling vineyards and the serene shores of Lake Wyaralong at The Overflow Estate 1985, a historic property turned boutique winery just 1.5 hours’ drive from Brisbane City. Visits to the cellar door and exquisite restaurant meet days luxuriating among the eucalypts from your eco-pod, complete with a king bed, sustainable linen, and an outdoor stone tub to enjoy the unsurpassed beauty of the Scenic Rim – with plenty more adventures on your doorstep.

Heritage Estate Winery and Cottage, Granite Belt

The Granite Belt has become the home of Queensland wine, with the region boasting more than 50 boutique wineries - thanks to its elevation and cooler climate.

One of the first wineries you’ll encounter when making the journey towards Stanthorpe from Brisbane is Heritage Estate. On this working vineyard sits the Heritage Estate Cottage, a romantic 155-year-old cedar-lined timber lodge, nestled under conifers and pine trees. Right next door is a converted apple storage shed, now a quirky cellar door that houses antiques with fascinating backstories (ask your host about the 160-year-old parliamentary table).

Travelling with a group? Book the Vitners Eco Retreat.

Next, take a seat at the bar and discover why Heritage Estate has been awarded five stars by renowned wine critic, James Halliday, from 2016-2021. You can’t leave without sampling the Moonshine Madness, a port liqueur that smells like coffee and tastes like chocolate.

Once you’ve chosen a favourite bottle or two, retreat to your rustic cottage, complete with a kitchenette, bathroom, queen-size bedroom and of course, a potbelly stove for snuggling up in front of a log fire. Or you could watch the sunset from the verandah with a glass of red or white in hand, while the kangaroos graze nearby. In the morning, take a stroll through the Heritage Estate vineyard which is bursting with juicy grapes in summer, and is refreshingly frosty in winter.

Ocean View Estate Winery and Cottages, Mount Mee

Couple enjoying a wine overlooking the vineyard from Ocean View Estates | queensland wineries you can stay at

Ocean View Estates, Mount Mee, Brisbane

Ocean View Estate Winery and Cottages is located only 45 km from Brisbane, yet they feel like a world away thanks to their serene setting at Ocean View, en route to the picturesque Mount Mee. A welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of regular life, the only decision you’ll have to make once you arrive at Ocean View Estate is whether you’d prefer to dine in the restaurant or enjoy a casual picnic overlooking the property’s lake. You can also choose to self-cater in one of the cottages and enjoy your meal in front of a roaring fire.

But before you get too settled into your private bubbly spa, pop into the cellar door to try a few of their popular wines, including the Stella Viognier - a crisp and fruity drop well suited to the local growing climate.

Sirromet Winery and Sanctuary by Sirromet, Mount Cotton

Sanctuary by Sirromet, luxury tented pavilions nestled in the bushland at Sirromet Wines | queensland wineries you can stay at

Sanctuary by Sirromet, Mt Cotton, Brisbane

Sirromet’s spectacular hilltop location at Mount Cotton is only a 40-minute drive from Brisbane Airport, making it one of Queensland’s most accessible winery getaways. But this destination offers much more than your usual winery experience, with many opportunities to explore beyond the cellar door and immerse yourself in the estate's many corners.

To better understand how your bottle of shiraz or chardonnay was made, Sirromet offers behind the scenes tours where you can view the winemaking process from grape to glass. Savour the moment with a picnic in the lavender fields, or get cosy under an evening of stars with a gourmet hamper, mulled wine and private firepit.

Of course, good wine calls for an accompaniment of good food, and at Sirromet you can choose between hearty Italian fare at the Tuscan Terrace or simple cheese platters at the cellar door (featuring local cheeses and shiraz infused salami). When you’ve had your fill, it’s just a leisurely walk to your onsite glamping accommodation – Sanctuary by Sirromet. Set amongst the tall scribbly gums and paperbark trees, you’ll share your rural setting with wallabies and kookaburras.

Flame Hill Vineyard and Cottages, Montville

Flame Hill Vineyard and Restaurant | Queensland wineries with accommodation

Flame Hill Vineyard and Cottages, Montville, Sunshine Coast

If you can’t decide between country views or an ocean outlook, you can have both at Flame Hill Vineyard and Cottages at Montville in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

Take in views over the verdant Blackall Range and out to the sea from your cosy cottage - the estate features two self-contained, three bedroom houses. But before you get too comfortable on your verandah or settle down beside the wood fire, head into the cellar door for a tasting session and sample the 100% estate-grown wines, hand-harvested and sourced from plantings up to 80 years old.

After choosing a bottle or two, take your seat for an exquisite paddock-to-plate experience. Meals are prepared from the property’s kitchen garden and served on the restaurant’s expansive deck, where you can watch the free-range chickens and cows go about their day.

Back in your cottage, you’ll want to pour yourself a glass of the complimentary Barrel Port, and if you’re still peckish, you can order a charcuterie and cheese board to be delivered to your lodging. The food keeps flowing the following day with all the fixings for a continental breakfast provided.

Twisted Gum Cottage, Ballandean

Settle in for a wine weekend at Twisted Gum Cottage, a 1920’s farm cottage that will be your perfect base to explore the Granite Belt. With three bedrooms and two bathrooms, the self-contained property overlooks the vines and native forest – and is moments from Twisted Gum’s Queenslander-style cellar door (open 10am – 4pm weekends or by appointment).

Whether your ideal getaway is devouring a good book on the verandah with some award-winning wine or exploring the 40-hectare property and bird watching, this is a serene spot to stay a while.

Travelling with an EV? The cottage boasts a complimentary 22kw type2 charging port, so you can hit the road to explore the best of the area.

Clovely Estate Cellar Door and Clovely Lane Cottage, South Burnett

For a total change of pace, head to the much-awarded Clovely Estate in the emerging South Burnett wine region. To get there, you’ll drive through rugged countryside and discover quaint farming towns like Goomeri, Wondai and Murgon where you can stop to pick up local produce to enjoy later in your self-catering accommodation. At Clovely Estate’s cellar door, you’ll find more provisions available to purchase, including their own olive oil, made from fruit sourced from local olive groves. While you’re there, be sure to taste their range of semillons, which are well suited to the local growing conditions and are divine when paired with seafood. They also age well, and can keep for 20 years, so you may want to leave with a case!

After a sound night sleep at Clovely Estate’s Vineyard Cottage, wake up to a crisp dawn and a sunrise over the vineyards, with only the birds to break the silence. And when you need more supplies, the cellar door is only a few minutes’ walk away. Often, you’ll meet one of the owners’ family there, who are only too willing to share their tales from the vineyards and the stories behind each wine.
