Only an 8-minute drive from the heart of Surfers Paradise, The Spit Beach, the home of Get Wet Surf School since 2005, is the true locals surfing paradise. No crowds, no high-rises shadowing the beach, no traffic and loads of free parking.
The sand-pumping jetty and the Seaway wall offer protection from the strong currents and shore dumps that affect the open beaches, allowing perfect sandbanks to form which allow the lesson to be conducted in waist-deep water, safe even for those who are not strong swimmers.
Continually raising the bar for safety, Get Wet was the first surf school on the Gold Coast to insist all instructors conduct police checks before working with children, which has since become a national requirement and the first to maintain strict participant-to-instructor ratios well below the national standard (5:1 for adults and 4:1 for children).

Two hour Beginner Surf Lesson (Ages 13+)
A Get Wet two-hour beginner surf lesson is for participants 13 years and above and provides the opportunity to experience the thrill of surfing in the safest and easiest way. Lessons are held on the magnificent Spit Beach, away from the busy tourist beaches.
The Spit is a haven for locals and is well known for being the best place for beginners to experience surfing. A few brief instructions: They get you out in the water as soon as possible with the lowest participant-to-instructor ratio in Australia (5 students: 1 instructor). Lessons are every day of the week, with more scheduled in peak times. Children's group lessons are held separately with a lower ratio to ensure maximum safety.
Joining a group of like-minded people looking for something new to try is always loads of fun. They get you down to the beach and then run through some basic steps that will have you standing up on your board in no time!

Kids beginner surf lesson (6-12 years)
Are your kids keen to Get Wet?
The kids-only surf lessons are for little frothers who want to try their hand at shredding without those pesky adults killing their mojo! These classes are for 6 to 12-year-olds and they are run daily throughout school holidays and on weekends throughout the school terms. Kids-only classes are run with an even lower coach-to-participant ratio of 4:1 to ensure maximum amounts of both safety and fun!
Surfing is such a great sport for all ages and these sessions are designed to give them a taste of surfing hopefully, they love it and want to come back for more. The Intro to Surf session is the prerequisite to their Beginner surf programs and we cover the following:
Identify the parts of the surf board and equipment
Basic surf awareness
Recognize hazards in the surf such as rips
Learn the steps to standing on a board
Ride a broken wave in the white wash assisted by the instructor
How to fall off safely in the shallows
