Keppel Bay Fishing Adventures

Start your ultimate Keppel Bay fishing adventure by launching your boat at the Keppel Bay Marina in Rosslyn Bay. With two four lane boat ramps and ample car spaces, you’ll be off in no time.

Once you conduct the necessary safety and equipment checks, start your boat up and head out of the picturesque marina. As soon as you’re outside of the marina, you’re granted easy access to the Keppel Bay and the many islands. A fisherman’s dream come true.

A short 10 minute ride south along the shoreline will take you to Bluff Rock, the local’s call it Iron Pot. It is a local’s secret spot for trolling and bait fishing. With deep pockets surrounding the rock, you’re able to chase a variety of fish. If you’re trolling, you may even be able to catch a mackerel. This spot produces good fishing conditions most of the year and in winter it does get affected by the south easterly winds.

On the edge of the Net Free Fishing Zone, near the North Keppel Island, you’ll find a smaller sandy island called Pumpkin Island. You can troll around these islands and reef systems and will find coral reef at the bottom. This fishing destination is great for bait fishing, but trollers will attract big fish such as spanish mackerel and other reef fish species such as snapper and trout. Keep an eye out for Pelagics at the water’s surface and you’ll find some good trolling spots.

The Keppel Bay is great for snorkelling and is wrapped in white sandy beaches. If you’re bringing the family, definitely stop at one of the beaches for a swim.

After a big day out fishing and trolling around The Keppel Bay, your trip back to the marina will not be a dull one. In fact, the boat ride offers great views of the Capricorn coast and Yeppoon. Plus you’ll have fresh fish for dinner. That’s one more thing to smile about!
