If a trip to sun-soaked Lady Elliot Island has long been on your bucket list, the good news is you can visit it right now - virtually that is – thanks to a breathtaking new docuseries.

While a visit to the island is something everyone should do at least once in their lifetime, if you want to experience the stunning, rugged beauty of Lady Elliot right now, new series Life on the Reef is for you.

The 12-part doco will showcase the untold stories and behind scenes footage of the critical research taking place on Lady Elliot Island.

Home to an underwater oasis, in this highly protected green zone you’ll find more than 1,200 marine species including turtles, dolphins, humpback whales and manta rays.

In each ep you’ll get to ride side by side with Master Reef Guides (the world’s leading guides, interpreters, and storytellers of the reef) and research teams whose mission is to protect the beautiful Southern Great Barrier Reef and educate the rest of us on their important work.

You’ll get up close and personal with the unique wildlife that call the reef home, from identifying manta rays to sitting on the edge of your seat whilst tracking apex predators. But perhaps most importantly, you’ll see first-hand how new technologies are used to assist with research and the effects of climate change.

After 14 months in the making, Life on the Reef will drop tonight at 7pm AEST on YouTube, so set that reminder now. And be sure to subscribe to Lady Elliot Island YouTube, so you don’t miss an episode.

Post screening we’re positive you’ll be putting in that annual leave and booking an unforgettable trip to Lady Elliot Island. This stunner of a place is only accessible by carbon neutral flights departing the Gold Coast, Brisbane (Redcliffe), Hervey Bay, and Bundaberg. Not sure where to start? Check out this 48-hour itinerary and let the wanderlust planning begin.
