It’s a national treasure, the outdoor BBQ in Queensland, enjoyed on a scale that rivals dining traditions wild wide. And why wouldn’t it be? With our blessed climate and miles of open space, there are plenty of opportunities to throw a steak, snag or veggie kebab (or prawn, but never shrimp) on the barbie and enjoy some of Australia’s best outdoor kitchens.

It’s an age-old tradition that’s core purpose is to come together over food and join with your mates, travel partners and family around the one cooking apparatus. Guaranteed to have your mouth watering before you push the ‘on’ button and the conversation flowing well after you’ve flipped the last sausage.

Pack your tongs, oil, a roll of paper towel and some al-foil and delight in this beloved Australian ritual at one of these BBQ locations in Queensland.

Head down early before lunch (or after checking out sunrise) to beat the beachgoers to the best setup.

There are also plenty of takeaway treats in the main drag to enjoy, should you forget sides, burn the snags, or fancy a famous fruit-loaded juice from The Fruit Shop.

Happy Valley is exactly that. Nestled into a picturesque corner of coastline in Caloundra, this humble little BBQ patch in Queensland is a favourite for locals and holiday makers. It’s the kind of spot that keeps you coming back, in what will soon become a BBQ tradition for you and your loved ones.

Happy Valley is a group outing dream, with the surf on one side and a calm passage on the other, free BBQ gazebos with room to move, grassy stretches for sports or games, and a coffee van in the park. Don’t forget your etiquette

With great tradition comes great etiquette, so it’s worth mentioning some housekeeping before you set off. Like any experience, it’s best to leave the place how you found it. Keep an eye on the green barbeque light at free locations – once it’s off, so’s the heat! Lastly, there’ll always be someone around to lend you a sheet of foil, paper towel or a pair of tongs – all you have to do is ask. Queensland’s great like that.
