To chat face-to-face to a local about all the best things to see and do on Lady Elliot Island, step into a Visitor Information Centre.
Underwater is where the true magic lies. This highly protected green zone is home to more than 1,200 marine species including turtles (nesting and baby hatchlings arrive every year from November to March), dolphins, humpback whales (May to November) and a significant population of manta rays (peaking from May to August).
To see them yourself all you need is the snorkel, mask and fins you’re handed on arrival. The snorkel trail on the eastern side of the island takes you past Manta Bommie, a well-frequented cleaning station. For divers, there are 20 incredible sites to explore.
The unpretentious Eco Resort keeps you immersed in the natural surroundings. Powered by 100% renewables, void of single-use plastics, employing a complex waste-management system and energy saving methods at every turn, there’s no surprise so many of Lady Elliot Island’s guests report significant behavioural change after leaving the island.
This is a place that will change how you see the world, and how you act within it.
Lady Elliot Island is only accessible by carbon neutral flights departing the Gold Coast, Brisbane (Redcliffe), Hervey Bay, and Bundaberg.
Day trips are available, but Lady Elliot Island is best experienced over a few days so you can properly explore the Lagoon and Coral Gardens, watch the sun set over the ocean, and the milky way sparkle through the night.
