With international borders closed and overseas leisure travel unlikely until later this year, there's never been a better time to explore Queensland - and the Great Barrier Reef has topped Aussies' bucket lists of destinations for 2021.

The Daintree Rainforest is another dream Queensland destination, coming in fourth on the list of places Australians are eager to experience, according to travel search engine KAYAK.com.au.

The survey results showed a surprisingly large number of Australians are yet to experience many iconic destinations in their own backyard, with nearly 1 in 2 Australians having not yet visited the Great Barrier Reef, Great Ocean Road or Bondi Beach.

“It’s surprising to see that iconic destinations remain undiscovered by the majority of Australians," says Ben Connell, VP of APAC Marketing at KAYAK.

“Now that international tourists are non-existent and crowds are low, 2021 is the perfect time for travellers to snap up great travel deals and tick off some of these special locations on their bucket list.”
