Ride the waves at our best surf spots

With a reputation for some of the nation’s best waves, there’s no better place to grab your board and hit the surf than in Queensland. From the pro-favouring Snapper Rocks to the gentle breaks of Noosa, there’s a surfing spot for wave-chasers of all experience levels. Equal parts sun and reliable swell, the Sunshine State is surfing mecca.

Beginners are well catered to along the Queensland coastline, where protected bays with gentle swell tempt them year-round. The resort town of Noosa on the Sunshine Coast is famed for its friendly beach breaks, welcoming of longboarders and newcomers alike. Kick off your surfing career with lessons at the iconic resort town’s Main Beach, or around the corner in Noosa National Park, where the crystal clear waters of Tea Tree Bay continue to prove popular.

Though the south doesn’t lack surfing potential - the Gold Coast offers breaks suitable for all skill levels. Currumbin Alley, nudging the idyllic Currumbin Creek, remains a firm favourite for those wanting to learn. Though veterans needn’t go far; after all, it’s on the Gold Coast where some of Australia’s best breaks reside. Including Snapper Rocks hugging the state border, where pro competition the Corona Open Gold Coast takes place each year. Those after similarly challenging waves, but slightly less crowds, may prefer neighbouring Kirra Beach and Burleigh Heads.
