Accommodation

Dugong Beach campsite is situated on Whitsunday Island, at Cid Harbour, approximately 17 kilometers east-northeast of Shute Harbour (mainland). This campground is ideal for larger groups and offers several walking trails, including a 1.5-kilometer track to Sawmill Beach and a 2.5-kilometer one-way track leading to a lookout. Visitors may spot dugongs in the bay, and turtles are also common in the area. Please note that snorkeling is not permitted on the tidal seagrass flats to protect the habitat. Additionally, Dugong Beach is sheltered from the prevailing southeast winds.

The campsite is located in a dry rainforest, providing ample shade, and the ground surface consists of sand and dirt.

Access to Dugong Beach is by boat only, and it is best reached during mid to high tide. There is a protected anchorage at Cid Harbour. Facilities at the campground include a composting toilet and sheltered picnic tables. Remember to bring your own drinking water, rubbish bags, a fuel stove, and insect repellent.
