From September to March, Queensland’s sunflower fields bloom (some sunflower farms may vary depending on the location and weather). The best time to visit? Sue's Sunflower Farm, Moreton Bay Region

A 1-hour drive north of Brisbane, Sue’s Sunflower Farm in Wamuran, is a family-friendly favourite.

From September to late December, sunflowers bloom in waves of gold, perfect for photos and picking. The farm is all about fun, educational experiences for kids, making it the perfect outing for families.

After the blooms fade, the farm transforms into a birdwatcher’s paradise, with parrots and cockatoos swooping in to enjoy the seeds.

Sue’s Sunflower Farm is open only during the sunflower season.

Top tips for visiting the sunflower fields

  1. Check the picking seasons with the farm, or local Visitor Information Centres (sunflowers are seasonal and weather dependent on when they bloom)
  2. Bring your camera, phone or book in a photography session
  3. Arrive early or late for the best light (that golden hour)
  4. Wear comfortable shoes (and prepare to get them dirty)
  5. Pack snacks and water (or call into some of the Scenic Rim’s best places to eat)
  6. Follow the farm guidelines (not all sunflower farms are open to the public, so please check and avoid parking on the side of the road).
