Following the recent bushfires in late 2020, the world’s largest sand island – K’gari (Fraser Island) – is good to go, and welcoming visitors back to paradise.

All resort activities, tours, and cruises have now resumed, and the island's iconic attractions (like Lake McKenzie, Pile Valley, Central Station, and Eli Creek) were well-protected from the fires and remain in pristine condition.

Tour guide and resident island photographer Peter Meyer recently ventured out to take images of the regeneration in the fire-affected areas, and has perfectly captured how this natural wonder comes alive.

“Heading out onto the island in late December, I was witness to nature’s ability to tolerate, and even thrive after fire,” said Peter.

“Ferns emerging through the ash-covered leaves and new shoots sprouting from the charred Eucalypts is a remarkable sight. Nature’s cycle and generations of growth and have prepared it for such events.”

Having lived and worked on Fraser Island for over two decades, Peter has seen the island in many states and forms, including the aftermath of the 2011 fire.

Looking for somewhere to stay on K’gari? Kingfisher Bay Resort has a reopening special with up to 25% off.

With plenty of summer weeks ahead, here are 9 reasons why a visit to Fraser Island should be top of your list.
