Following the devastating fires of 2019/20, a month-long festival is heading to the Scenic Rim in March 2021 to celebrate the regeneration of the World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforests.

Taking place throughout Lamington National Park and Mt Barney National Park, Gondwana Festival is a first for South East Queensland. Bring your walking shoes and sense of adventure, to join guided walks, talks, and wild expeditions from the base camps and luxury lodges of Binna Burra, O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat and Mount Barney Lodge

“This is not a festival where you’ll experience hordes of people and the usual trappings of large festivals,” said Binna Burra CEO, Mr Johnathan Fisher.

“This is an immersion experience where people can rediscover and relax in nature and also challenge themselves physically if they choose to. It is something our minds and bodies are craving following the challenges of the past 18 months from drought, fires and COVID.”

The festival’s preliminary program has been released, including live music, under the stars film festival, children’s nature play activities, guided bushwalks, survival activities, and epic guided mountain expeditions to the top of Queensland’s most impressive peak. It will launch with a dramatic opening ceremony event that will tell the story of the landscape and culture through the ages, from recent tragedy to renewal, through music, installations, spoken word, image projections, food, and Welcome to Country.

Whether you’re after a week-long wander through World Heritage-listed forests with a hatted-chef dining experience included, or a day-time walk to a gorgeous waterfall, put a hosted hike on your bucket list.

The final festival program will be released soon, but in the meantime, here’s everything you need to know about exploring Gondwana Rainforests.
