Set to open to the public in 2022, the Wangetti Trail is a one-of-a-kind experience to explore Tropical North Queensland’s coast and hinterland from Port Douglas to Palm Cove.
Approximately 94kms in length, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the dual-use walking and mountain biking track, making it one of Australia’s leading adventure-based eco-tourism experiences.
“When operational, walkers and mountain bike riders will be treated to a one-of-a-kind experience, including the chance to experience the region’s rich Aboriginal cultural history while taking in the stunning coastal and hinterland scenery of the World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics and Great Barrier Reef,” said State Member for Cook, Cynthia Lui.
While construction is currently underway on the Mowbray River pedestrian bridge (stage one), the latest round of community consultations has begun, which means locals are welcome to have their say on the design of the trail.
Using the amended trail alignment, you can explore the proposed eco-accommodation, public campsite locations, and construction methodology. You can even see a sneak peek of the fantastic lookout views that will be visible along the trail.
Community members can provide feedback online until Friday 11 September 2020, which will be used to help inform concepts and planning as the trail progresses into the next stages.
