A chance to recapture the magic of childhood – and share unbridled joy with your own kids – Redcliffe KiteFest is an affordable and fun day out, with endless entertainment all weekend long.

Where is Redcliffe KiteFest?

Redcliffe KiteFest is staged at Clontarf’s Pelican Park in Redcliffe – under an hour’s drive northeast of Brisbane City. A family friendly coastal destination on the edge of Moreton Bay, it’s overflowing with local charm – along with calm coves perfect for watersports, vibrant green spaces, cafes, seafood shacks, and fishing spots.

What to do at Redcliffe KiteFest

There’s no doubt Redcliffe KiteFest is a community celebration for kids big and small.

Look to the skies as incredible kites of all shapes and sizes – from magnificent undersea creatures to favourite cartoon characters – soar above the parklands, joined by thrilling aerobatics displays each day at 12pm. At ground level, carnival fun, markets, scrumptious food stalls, and a huge program of entertainment keeps the fun going all weekend long. It feels like a massive birthday party, show bags included.

And it’s not only the international kite flyers that get a piece of the action: fashion your own kite (or BYO) and give it a test flight in the public kite flying zone.

Take your pick from wild amusement rides and sideshow games, interact with roving entertainers, catch tunes from buskers, and plant yourself at the main stage for a huge program of entertainment – including a live performance from beloved kids entertainer and ARIA Award Winner EMMA MEMMA.  

The Family Fun Zone offers lots of free and low-cost activities, as well as a ‘Messy Bubs’ play zone, and a quiet zone for those who might want a breather throughout the day.

Got kids with endless energy to burn? Head to the jumping castle or the Aqua Warrior, an inflatable water park where you’ll balance, climb and play your way through the floating obstacle course (BYO swimmers and towel).

What else can I do in Redcliffe?

While KiteFest could easily fill your day, there’s plenty more to see and do around Redcliffe – it was named in the 2023 QLD Top Tourism Town Awards, after all.  

Here’s a few of our favourite things to do:

• Kick back at Settlement Cove, a sprawling lagoon and parklands perfect for families to splash, play and picnic
• Feast and shop your way through Redcliffe Markets, held each Sunday
• Relax at Clontarf Beach Park, or make your way to patrolled Suttons Beach for a swim
• Discover two local icons: Redcliffe Jetty for views and Bee Gees Way for local music history
• Explore the coastal pathway on foot or pedal power, which stretches from Pelican Point all the way to Scarborough at the northern end of Redcliffe Peninsula
• Have some friendly competition at Undersea Putt & Play
• Tuck into fish and chips beside the trawlers at Morgans Seafood, or grab a table under the beach umbrellas at The Komo. If that kick-starts your inner foodie, it’s time to hit Moreton Bay’s food trail

Tickets for Redcliffe KiteFest are on sale now, starting from $12 per adult, $7 per child and $30 for a family pass (+ booking fees).

Limited tickets will be available at the festival gates during Redcliffe KiteFest, but it’s best to secure your spot and buy online ahead of the event.

Where to stay

Redcliffe KiteFest is the perfect excuse to spend the weekend by Moreton Bay. And if you want to wake up by the water, there’s plenty of quality accommodation to stay a while and savour.

Oaks Redcliffe Mon Komo offers luxurious hotel rooms and self-contained apartments in the heart of the action (many with a water view), as does Redvue Holiday Apartments – great options for families who want to self-cater and enjoy a bit of space.

On the northern end of the peninsula, Scarborough Holiday Village is steps from the marina and boasts villas and powered sites for caravans and RVs. If you love a cosy B&B, Beach House is for you – and it’s walking distance from Pelican Park, Redcliffe KiteFest’s grounds.
