Fish D'vine and the Rum Bar, The Whitsundays, Queensland

Discover The Whitsundays'
Restaurants and Cafes

Explore the Whitsundays' finest flavours

One of Queensland’s most beautiful residents is undoubtedly the Whitsundays. The genetically-blessed group of 74 islands sit in the middle of the spectacular Great Barrier Reef and has long remained one of the state’s favourite destinations for tourists. But aside from its abundance of natural beauty, including the iconic Whitehaven Beach which was recently voted the best beach in the world, there’s an array of Whitsundays restaurants and cafes to keep you well-fed and satisfied during your time in the region.

As one of the most popular islands, Hamilton Island, in particular, is flooded with eating establishments. Resorts here are in plentiful supply, including the much-revered qualia, home to an array of fine dining offerings, along with Pebble Beach, one of Australia’s most exclusive fine dining experiences. But that’s not to say guests will always have to dig deep - Hamilton Island is equally home to a number of casual venues scattered around the waterfront.

One Tree Hill Bar on Hamilton Island’s hilltop lookout offers 360-degree views and an outstanding cocktail menu or for fresh wild-caught seasonal seafood cooked to perfection, FISHI is a top choice. Asian flavours abound at coca chu which offers Thai and Vietnamese hawker-style food while the Beach Club serves contemporary Australian fare.

And don’t forget the mainland. The Whitsunday coastline is awash with both natural attractions and food venues, particularly in the main town and backpacker haven of Airlie Beach — the coastal enclave’s Esplanade is home to a growing population of restaurants and cafes. Special mention also goes to the much-loved Whitsundays Sailing Club in Airlie Point, home to a menu heavy on local seafood and some of the best views in the district.

Hit up Fish D’vine and Rum Bar for fresh seafood and the best mojitos this side of Cuba, KC's Bar and Grill for pub grub and a variety of ‘Aussie’ specialties, including kangaroo, emu, buffalo and crocodile, The Deck Restaurant for a la carte breakfast, lunch and dinner dishes and La Marina for classic Italian fare. The restaurant scene in Airlie Beach is vibrant and thriving, as are its cafe and bar offerings which present holidaymakers with more choices than you can poke a stick at, from the dog-friendly Fat Frog Beach Café situated on the Bicentennial Boardwalk with waterfront views to the plethora of bars and nightclubs along Shute Harbour Road.

And you’ll find an excellent array of casual and fine dining options throughout this vibrant and tropical region, from Azure at Hayman Island Resort and Bird’s Fish Bar in Bowen to the Clubhouse on Dent Island, iconic Nu Nu at Palm Cove, Salt Water on Lizard Island and Elysian Retreat on Long Island.
